Unravelling the vascular signaling network

Despite significant improvements in therapy, cardiovascular diseases are still the leading cause of death in the industrialized world. New therapies are urgently needed to delay disease progression and this requires the identification of new “drugable” targets. The VRC is comprised of a group of scientists at the Goethe-University in particular the Institute for Vascular Signalling (Director Prof. Dr. Ingrid Fleming) and the Institute for Cardiovascular Physiology (Director Prof. Dr. Ralf P. Brandes). We focus on the cellular signal transduction network in the vascular wall to uncover novel mechanisms operative in cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology. Only through a better understanding of cardiovascular signal transduction we can develop novel therapeutic approaches.
